DLA worked with Murraysmith and the City of Florence to propose several improvements to the highway corridor running from the Siuslaw Bridge on Highway 101 to Spruce Street on Highway 126. Over a 2-year period the team undertook a design visioning process that included meetings with the community and private landowners along the corridor. The proposed design ideas which included narrowing the existing 100ft wide corridor to create larger sidewalks, adding bike lanes, incorporating bulb outs, plazas with art installations and three gateway monuments were incorporated into the 2018 Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) scheduled upgrade. These improvements aim to reflect the culture, natural systems and history of Florence. Whilst at the same time providing a safe and inviting pedestrian environment that attracts travelers and residents into downtown Florence. Construction of the project is due to start in the winter 2018 and will run through winter of 2019.
